BIOGRAPHIE

Riccardo Bergamini

Riccardo Bergamini had an early interest in art and photography since he attended school when he begun studying music and theater at the Alessandro Ferzen school. He created the cultural association Ademus in Rome by organizing and leading various activities (workshops, participatory creation of musical compositions and performance).

In search of a common bond between sound and picture, he collaborated with different artists and photographer Elisabetta Catalano. His passion for photography turns into a profession in 1984.

Valentino, Armani, Emporio Armani, Dolce e Gabbana, Benetton, Balloon, Bassetti, i, the Altra Moda Agatha Paris, Wolford, Piero Guidi, Faber - Miami, Luxottica, Ebert, Bagutta, Amarea, Halfon Filinerba, Mumbai are among the companies with which Bergamini works as a photographer. Besides his commercial works, he developed several art projects. He worked on the archive for the director of the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome Palma Bucarelli, and also with the municipality of Mantova on a photographic book about theater costumes by Mario Pagano.

In 1997 he collaborated as a set photographer with director Francesco Maselli for the short film "Intolerance" presented in Film Festival of Venice. He has worked as photographer for Riccardo Reim, and also for the theatrical play"Zang Tum Tum of actress Maria Rosaria Omaggio, dedicated to the futuristic poetic writers, and presented at the Festival of Todi. Bergamini gives free rein to his sensitivity and his desire to create, while touching the big contemporary themes. The camera becomes a means to capture an image but also sound, to read the psyche of humans as well as non-human, photographed to reproduce the materiality and immateriality of the universe surrounding the photographer. The studio work allows him to experiment with light in a very innovative way.

The strong themes addressed by Bergamini are pain, rebellion and hope, reflected on the series «Outrages», « Metamorphosis », « W.Wo m(e)n », « Bambini Anima Mundi » . These works were exhibited at the Palace of the Council of Europe in 2002. In 2014, Bergamini moved to Brussels and co-founded Maison Bergamini with the young independent curator Francesca Masoero. It serves as a multidisciplinary space for artistic experimentation, research and social commitment, which serves as housing and as a photography studio.
